Our practical arts program is designed to help student’s learn skills that translate to real life and beyond the classroom. We teach them how to take tasks and break it down into manageable segments. These skills can be valuable to our students as it not only teaches life skills but also empowers them to reach out to their communities offering acts of kindness through gifts made with your hands.

International Foods- Teacher- Zuzana Rachal

The student will study foods of many countries and will learn to cook selected recipes from countries such as Mexico, Germany, France, Great Britain, China, and the United States.

This course teaches basic skills for food preparation. Skills learned include standard baking and cooking procedures and techniques, reading recipes, using substitutions in recipes, safety procedures and use of kitchen equipment and tools.

 

Sewing- Teacher- Zuzana Rachal

This course teaches basic skills for creating useful and beautiful items. Techniques used include sewing machine, hand stitching, knitting, crochet, quilting and embroidery. Students are also introduced to equipment, tools, textiles, commercial patterns, creating an original pattern, design and finishing techniques.

Projects may include (but are not limited to) scarves, hats, bags, aprons, and pillowcases.

Auto Mechanics- Teacher- Jesse Plecker

In the AutoMech course, the student will learn about basic auto upkeep and personal auto care conducting routine maintenance work aiming to maintain vehicle functionality and longevity as well as the importance of inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components, wheel, tire, suspension & brake systems, and diagnose issues accurately. They will learn about how vehicle computer and electronic systems contribute to the operation of the automobile.

 

Woodworking- Teacher- Jay Kissinger

In the Wood-shop class, students will learn the role of how woodworkers set up, operate, and tend all types of woodworking machines, such as saws, drill presses, lathes, routers, sanders, planers, and wood-fastening tools and equipment. They will learn the fundamentals of precision measuring devices and set up of woodworking equipment, cut and shape wooden parts, several forms of wood joinery, and verify dimensions, using a template, caliper, and rule.
