Science Department

Our students will be building on their current science knowledge while exploring the life and physical sciences at AAA. Students will recognize the Creator’s hand in science. These sciences include Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Physics. The upper level sciences (Chemistry, A & P, and Physics) will prepare our students for courses in further education.

This class will allow students to experience a variety of professions using project based learning. Students choose the series of modules they will complete through the year to match with their interests.  Each module has reading, writing, and activities focused around a specific area of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

Physical Science- Teacher- Bryce Sampsel

Biology- Teacher- Grace Gratias

Biology is a one-year course that is required for graduation. It is typically taken during a student’s sophomore year. The major topics covered throughout the year are ecology, cellular biology, genetics, microbiology, and creation/evolution.

Chemistry- Teacher- Grace Gratias

Prerequisite – C or better in Algebra 1; C or better in Biology recommended

Chemistry is one of several options to earn the needed science credits for graduation. It is advisable that any student interested in the medical, science, or math/engineering fields take chemistry. Students typically take Chemistry their junior year.

Physics- Teacher- Bryce Sampsel

Prerequisite: C or better in Algebra 2 or instructor’s permission

Physics is a year-long science course typically taken by seniors. There is a significant amount of applied mathematics within this course to do the calculations. The major topics covered in the course include the motion, Newton’s Laws, friction, force, work, orbital mechanics, thermodynamics, waves, optics, electricity, and magnetism.

Anatomy & Physiology- Teacher- Grace Gratias

Prerequisite – C or better in Biology; Chemistry is recommended

Anatomy & Physiology is one of several options to earn the needed science credits for graduation. It is highly recommended for students who are interested in nursing and allied health fields, as well as medical/dental fields. Students typically take A & P their senior year.
