International Day of Peace

Each year there is a theme and this year is ending racism!

International Day of Peace is a day that we can all enjoy!

International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, is a holiday made by the United Nations that is dedicated to the absence of war, fights, and any other violent event. It was established in 1981 and kept in many nations to show that despite their differences, all of us can coexist peacefully.

World Peace is difficult to achieve due to the fact the entire world’s population consists of 7.7 billion people with different views, different opinions, and different ways to solve problems. The fact that the United Nations was able to come to a unanimous decision is impressive on so many levels. It begins annually on the 100-day countdown and this year is more important because it is the 20th anniversary of World Peace Day!

Each year there is a theme and this year is ending racism! We all have a role to play in ending violence and you can get involved by going to www.internationaldayofpeace.org. Ways you can get involved range “From education to the arts, social justice to sports, health to the environment, neighborhood issues to service for others, there are many ways to participate in Peace Day!

We invite you to create a public or private activity related to peace, spread the word about Peace Day and/or attend an event in your community.” (internationaldayofpeace.org). Getting involved with your community or family will always make a difference, so get involved today!
